This spider is named after its most distinguishing feature, a lattice-like retreat made of fine silk (not yet shown). These spiders also weave a web near its retreat. It shows quite a bit of variability in color. It has about a 1/2 inch long body. Our images were identified with the help of volunteer experts at BugGuide.

 

The abundance of this species in our nature centers is yet unknown – we’ve only seen one, on Cottonwood Trail in Fontenelle Forest – in October.
