This member of the cobweb family of spiders is mostly dark and glossy, and has about a 1/4 inch-long (6 mm) body. It spins an irregular sheet web to catch insects.
The spider in Photo A was found under the bark of a log at Camp Brewster in early September 2012. Photos B and C were taken inside the Fontenelle Forest Nature Center. These spiders are considered to be common in our area and they occur east of the Rockies and in the northern states (borealis implies northern).
