This small orb weaving spider is about 1/4 inch long. It has an irregular, flat shield at the top of its abdomen, with two short spines (C). This shield is white with black markings, in a pattern symmetrical around its centerline (A,B). A profile view shows a thick inclined abdomen (C). This spider spins a very dense web (B).

 

This small spider is common in Fontenelle Forest, often seen at eye level along woodland trails.
