This spider has a body less than 1/4 inch long, with two pairs of its legs much longer and crab-like. Its color varies from yellow to white, depending, some say, on the flower color which it occupies to ambush its prey. The main identifying feature for this species is the arrangement of its eight tiny eyes. In this species, four eyes are visible on the front row on the ridge above the mouth parts, and only two behind it – best seen in full view of image (A). Only females are usually seen waiting in ambush. The males are much smaller and look totally different, with their two front pairs of legs dark, the others light (F,G).

These spiders are common where flowers are blooming at both nature centers – many large flowers such as thistles and sunflowers will have one of these color variants sitting in ambush. Sometimes they hide behind a turned leaf (E).
