The Prominent Moth family has nine subfamilies and 138 species in 43 genera in North America. The moths are medium-sized, stout-bodied and mostly colored brown and gray. Some of the larvae feed in groups on leaves usually in the early instars. The winter is spent as a mature larva or as a pupa in soil or leaf litter.
